“Writes of Passage,” a Saturday Critique Workshop with Editor Jami Carpenter
Saturday, February 1
9:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
Location: COCC Redmond Campus, Room 306
“Writes of Passage” Critique Workshop
Whether we submit to the Big 6 or self-publish; whether our format will be print, audio, or ebook; whether our manuscript is fiction or non-fiction, memoir or mystery, the goal is the same: to use words for maximum impact and write a great story.
Using years of experience working with authors and publishers, Editor Jami Carpenter will offer examples and solutions to enhance our writing. From creating first sentence/first page hooks to avoiding common mistakes, the emphasis of the workshop will be on the craft of writing.
Small Group Critique: After Jami’s presentation, we’ll break into small groups to work on our writing.
What to Bring: Six copies of the opening pages or any key passage (three pages maximum, please). We’ll brush up on our critique skills and review how to make the most of comments we receive on our own work. During the workshop, Jami will interact with each group, giving us an opportunity to work with her as we develop self-editing skills and put them to use with our own material.
Bring a sack lunch so we can keep working and get the most from our time with your small group. Coffee and tea will be provided by the Guild. This workshop is free to all Guild members and $10 for nonmembers.
To guarantee your spot in the workshop, sign up at the monthly Guild meeting or email firstname.lastname@example.org by January 28.
